it can be usefull if you want to take a current project you make and continue to work on it to release a new version in a different name, but keep the previous version.

to do that copy the main folder of the solution in windows explorer to the same location, and rename it in windows explorer to a new name.
rename the project folder too and the project file too, other files which are not the source or header files can be deleted

then launch VS2005, open the solution file inside the new folder. you will get an error about missing project. accept it.

remove the old project from the solution and add the modified project.
